Hey friends, it’s Em here from TANDEM photo + video in Gettysburg, PA and I just wanted to address the elephant in the room. While most couples prioritize photography (with good reason) the age old question remains – is adding videography to my wedding coverage worth it?
Of course I’m biased (I married the videographer lol) but I had to chime in with my point of view from a photographers perspective because after shooting for 7 years everything from backyard weddings to luxury weddings across the east coast, one thing remains true.
There is nothing like video.
Why Couples Regret Skipping Wedding Videography
One of the only regrets I hear from our couples is “I wish we added video” and whew what a gut punch that can be. Because not only do I totally understand where there coming from but I’m painfully aware that the moment has passed and they can’t just add video on after the wedding day is over.
All of those special memories, those aunts and uncles you never see, your college friends flying in, the personalized (non chatgpt) vows being exchanged … these are all once in a lifetime moments and once it’s over, it’s over.
Not only does video capture full moments in their entirety, but we’re capturing professional grade audio as well. We have the groom mic’d for most of the day so all of those little moments between you and your new bride are preserved. Her dad’s gasp during the first look, reminding her that she’s still 5 in his mind, yep we have it all. And the best part; you don’t have to rely on your memory to hold those moments close. They’re captured. Not only the feeling of that moment (which I do believe photography captures well) but the actual moment itself. Everything that was said, all the tears that were cried, it’s all there in 4k.
What Videography Adds to Your Wedding Day
But here’s something couples don’t always realize until they’re in it…
Your wedding day moves fast.
Faster than you expect and way faster than you can fully take in. There are entire parts of the day you won’t see and interactions happening across the room. (The way your partner looks at you during the ceremony, the energy on the dance floor before you even step out there). Video fills in those gaps.
It gives you a way to experience your wedding day from the outside looking in and to see the moments you missed while reliving the ones you were in but couldn’t fully process in real time.
And if you’re considering adding videography, there’s one more thing that makes a bigger difference than most people realize:
Who you hire.
Is It Better to Hire a Photo and Video Team Together?
One of the biggest mistakes we see is couples hiring separate photo and video teams who have never worked together before. Different communication styles, different priorities, different visions and suddenly your timeline feels tighter, moments feel more rushed, and instead of working together, your vendors are competing for the same space.
That’s exactly why we built Tandem the way we did.
As a dedicated photo + video team, everything we do is collaborative from the start. We’re not just showing up on the same day, we’re working together intentionally to tell your story in a cohesive, seamless way.
At the end of the day, videography isn’t just an add-on… it’s another layer of how your story is preserved. And while you’ll always have your photos to look back on, there’s something incredibly powerful about being able to press play and be right back in it. If you’re on the fence, we’re always happy to walk you through what that could look like for your day. We are always happy to help.
And since I went on and on about videos here’s some of my favorites;
