If you’re dreaming of a romantic, European-style garden wedding right in the heart of Central Pennsylvania, Lauxmont Farms’ Sunken Gardens might just be your perfect match. As a wedding photographer who has captured the most beautiful editorial here, I had ample time to find all the beautiful spots and see this space all dressed up. I’m sharing everything you need to know about this truly unique venue—from how it photographs to logistics and tips for planning your big day.

What Makes the Sunken Gardens So Special?
Tucked into the rolling hills of Wrightsville, PA, the Sunken Gardens at Lauxmont Farms feels like a hidden oasis. Surrounded by lush greenery, historic stone steps, and cascading floral blooms, the space is intimate, elegant, and ideal for couples who want their ceremony to feel both timeless and romantic.
With views of the Susquehanna River, a formal garden layout, and golden-hour light that glows through the treetops, it’s a photographer’s dream.
How the Sunken Gardens Photograph
As a photographer, what stands out most about the Sunken Gardens is the natural structure and light. The layers of greenery, stone architecture, and colorful blooms give photos an editorial quality, even with minimal decor.
Some favorite photo moments include:
- Unique ceremony location
- Flexible photography angles due to the layout
- Intimate couple photos tucked into the ivy walls
- The view overlooking the river at sunset
- The pool being the perfect backdrop for an intimate cocktail hour
- A perfect space for a micro wedding
It’s one of the few venues where you can create a variety of looks—romantic, formal, documentary, editorial—all within a short walking distance.

When to Book the Sunken Gardens
Because the space is so foliage-forward, the best months for a Lauxmont Farms Sunken Gardens wedding are typically May through October.
- Late spring brings fresh greenery and blooms.
- Summer is lush and vibrant.
- Early fall offers golden tones and softer light.
Keep in mind the Sunken Gardens is completely outdoors, so weather planning is essential (more on that below).
Ceremony + Reception Layout
The Sunken Gardens has a unique layout. A ceremony is typically set up surrounding a fountain with chairs set to both sides of the space. The couple walks down the stairs from the pool area to enter the ceremony. It is a very cool set up with an elevated feel. Reception will typically follow at their tent just below the ceremony space.
I recommend building in extra buffer time between ceremony and reception to enjoy portraits on-site without rushing. You can find more information from my Timeline Guide here!

Tips for Planning Your Sunken Gardens Wedding
Here’s what I tell all my couples planning a wedding here:
- Have fun with the Pool
At this venue, their is a unique visual feature having this pool be a main focal point. Have fun with it! At our shoot, we had the Lancaster Balloon Lady come and put Balloons all throughout the pool. It added so much to the overall feel. - Opt for Sunset Photos
There is a beautiful field in the back of the property that has a sunset peeking through the trees to kiss the night away. If your photographer offers sunset photos I think they are 100% worth it at this venue! - Consider timing
The sun dips behind the trees earlier than expected, so plan for a late afternoon ceremony if you want soft, glowing light. - Keep your guests comfortable
There’s minimal shade during the ceremony time. Offering fans, cold drinks, or parasols goes a long way in summer months.

Vendor-Friendly Venue
One of the things I love about working at Lauxmont Farms is how vendor-friendly they are. There’s a clear layout for vendors, ample parking, and cooperative staff who know the property well. As a photo and video team, we’re able to move around the property smoothly, coordinate with your planner, and make sure every detail is captured.
Final Thoughts
If you’re looking for a venue that combines Old World charm with lush, garden romance, Lauxmont Farms’ Sunken Gardens should be high on your list. It offers both a stunning backdrop and an unforgettable guest experience—and it photographs like a dream.
